One person was killed and at least four others were injured after gunfire erupted in a Bronx park Saturday night, the NYPD said.
Four people were taken into custody, the NYPD said in a statement, but there were no details on any arrests.
Police said they received calls of multiple people being shot around 7:30 p.m. at Burke Avenue and Wickham Avenue near Haffen Park.
An unidentified 32-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to chest and was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.
Another victim at the scene, a 17-year-old girl, was transferred to Jacobi in critical condition, with a gunshot wound to her face.
Three other gunshot victims, all in stable condition, were transferred to local hospitals privately: a 30-year-old male arrived at Jacobi with a gunshot wound to his back; a 29-year-old female arrived at Jacobi with a gunshot wound to the back; and a 42-year-old male arrived at Montefiore Hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm.
CBS2 reported the violence broke out as a basketball tournament was underway. The NYPD on Sunday referred to an “event” in the park, but provided no further detail.
The NYPD said its investigation continues.
