NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Changes will be moving in through the week and it is going to mean a hot 4th of July the way it looks right now. In the short term we will continue to sit on the eastern side of a ridge of high pressure through Wednesday. This will continue to keep us in a northwest flow with the chance for some showers and storms developing Tuesday and Wednesday.
Expect the best chance of rain to be in the eastern half of the area. So basically east of the Causeway, including southern Mississippi. Areas along and west of I-55 will have a lower chance of storms developing. Temperatures will top out in the low 90s Tuesday and Wednesday.
By Wednesday night a weak front will be moving through the area. This will bring slightly drier air for the second half of the week. This means not as much rain but hot temperatures by Thursday and Friday with mid 90s likely.
In the tropics we will continue to watch an area of lower pressure in the northeastern Gulf that still has a low chance of development from the NHC. It’s possible a weak area of low pressure forms along that front by the end of the week, but significant tropical impacts are not expected for our area.
