An investigation is underway in Miami-Dade County on Saturday after an off-duty corrections officer was shot at while jogging, deputies said.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, at around 6:49 a.m., deputies received reports of a shooting at Southwest 112th Avenue and 170 Terrace.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the victim, an off-duty State of Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) corrections officer, who was uninjured.
Deputies said that their investigation revealed that the corrections officer was jogging with a woman when an unknown person in a vehicle came out to them, and an argument over the woman started.
During the verbal altercation, the suspect pulled out a firearm and shot at the corrections officer, and he also pulled out his gun and fired back at the suspect.
The suspect then fled the scene.
