Another 500 jobs are heading to the Huntsville area, thanks to an expansion by Northrop Grumman to accommodate work it’s doing as part of the U.S. Air Force’s Ground Based Strategic Deterrent program.
Northrop has already started hiring for the positions, which will mostly be engineers, and announced Tuesday the opening of a new facility located within Research Park in Huntsville where much of the work will take place.
“I’m thrilled that Northrop Grumman will be building on its already large presence in Huntsville while also advancing a strategic national defense priority,” Gov. Kay Ivey said. “By selecting Alabama’s ‘Rocket City,’ Northrop Grumman has picked the ideal location to carry out this important national security mission, and the company’s growth plans represent welcome news for Huntsville and for all of the state.”
Northrop already employs approximately 2,000 people in the Huntsville area, and the project could potentially exceed 500 additional employees, company officials said Tuesday.
