NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The National Hurricane Center is tracking two tropical waves in the Atlantic. The first, in the central Atlantic, is moving west-northwest at 20 mph with conditions favorable for gradual development. It could become a tropical depression by late week as it nears the Leeward Islands, with a 60% chance of formation over seven days. A second wave just off Africa is producing storms but faces less favorable conditions, keeping its development chances low at 10%.
Another heat advisory is in effect on Tuesday from 10A-7P as heat index values climb above 105. Expect highs of 93-96 through Wednesday with spots farther inland even a degree or two hotter. The next couple of days will look a lot like Monday.
Isolated storms will be possible each afternoon, especially later in the day. Strong wind gusts will be possible along with locally heavy downpours. Isolated street flooding will be possible. By Thursday rain chances look like they will be slightly higher which should help to provide a bit more relief from the heat by the afternoon.
