SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Schenectady man was arrested for alleged drug possession during a traffic stop in Saugerties by New York State Police on Monday. Troopers said Jason Thomas, 35, is facing first and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
Troopers said a 2025 BMW was seen driving north on the Northway around 4:40 p.m. and was stopped for traffic law violations. Law enforcement identified the driver as Thomas, and an investigation led to K-9 Kell performing an interior and exterior sniff of the car with positive results.
After K-9 Kell alerted to possible narcotics in the car, Troopers said they found over one and a half pounds of cocaine and a large quantity of cash. Thomas was arraigned in Ulster County Central Arraignment Part and remains in Ulster County Jail with his next court appearance scheduled on August 25 at 9 a.m.
