Joshua Andrew Vrabel, 47, appeared before the Loudoun County Circuit Court for sentencing on a revocation of probation relating to a conviction from 2007 of one count of Burglary with Intent to Commit Rape for a crime he committed against one of his relatives by marriage. The Honorable Matthew P. Snow sentenced Vrabel to serve the entirety of his remaining 10-year suspended sentence. Vrabel was convicted of 8 charges related to Possession of Child Pornography on February 28, 2025 in the Louisa County Circuit Court, and was sentenced to serve an active period of incarceration of 20 years. Vrabel will be spending the next 30 years in the Virginia Department of Corrections for his crimes.
In the morning of September 2006, the victim was getting ready for work at her home in Sterling. As she stepped out of the shower, she noticed that her bedroom door was open. She normally left it closed, and she lived alone. Uneasy, she continued to get dressed until she saw something in the hallway and called out to see if someone was there. To her shock, she saw a male figure dart across the hallway. Terrified, she barricaded herself in her bedroom by sitting against the door. At that time, Vrabel announced that he was there and tried to open the door. The victim refused to open the door, but Vrabel was able to force his way into her bedroom. She asked Vrabel why he was there, to which he did not respond, but instead moved towards her. She backed away from Vrabel and asked him to leave. Vrabel told her that he had been planning this for a long time and that he wanted to watch her undress. Screaming and crying, she begged for him to leave. Vrabel suddenly fell to the floor and began crying and then left the house. Vrabel told his wife about the incident before he was apprehended, and, upon his arrest, told law enforcement that he has a monster inside of him that he cannot control.
On March 14, 2007, Vrabel was sentenced for his conviction of one count of Burglary with Intent to Commit Rape to serve 20 years in the Virginia Department of Corrections, with 10 years suspended conditioned upon the successful completion of 10 years of intensive supervised probation upon release. Vrabel was released from prison on May 7, 2015, with intensive supervised probation set to terminate May 7, 2025. However, Vrabel’s Counsel’s Motion for Early Termination of Probation was granted on April 23, 2023, in the Loudoun County Circuit Court, and he was free to depart on unsupervised probation. Vrabel was later convicted on February 28, 2025, in the Lousia County Circuit Court for one count of Possession of Child Pornography, two counts of Possession of Child Pornography second or subsequent offense, one count of Reproduction, Distribution, Solicitation, etc. of Child Pornography, and four counts of Reproduction, Distribution, Solicitation, etc. of Child Pornography second or subsequent offense.
During the sentencing hearing on the probation revocation in Loudoun County, Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Frank Frio argued that the Court should impose Vrabel’s entire suspended sentence to fully protect the community. Frio said that Vrabel’s child pornography convictions show that “his criminal fixation has refocused to the most vulnerable in our community, children.”
Before he pronounced Vrabel’s sentence, Judge Snow said, “what this fundamentally relates to is the original charge … [Y]ou were given an opportunity to reform and made an effort, but you violated probation.”
Pursuant to Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry Act, Joshua Andrew Vrabel will be required to register as a sex offender for life. Information about Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry and those on it can be found on the Virginia State Police website.
