ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) — The Lincoln National Forest is planning to carry out some prescribed burns over the next couple of days. As long as weather permits, these burns would happen on July 4, 5, and 6, according to officials with Lincoln National Forest.
The fires are used to reduce overgrown vegetarian, thereby helping protect communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires. The project area includes Sacramento Ranger District, Perk Canyon, Forest Road 171 and Trail Canyon, and Forest Road 627. You can find a map below:
These areas may be closed to the public for safety purposes. “Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during operations,” said officials with Lincoln National Forest. “Personnel will continue to access the area in the following weeks to implement mop-up operations. These operations extinguish remaining hot spots and secure the fire perimeter to prevent rekindling.”
Residents may notice smoke during these fires. You can find the latest information on air quality in your area online.
