Happy Friday, everyone, and Happy Fourth of July. As you’d expect, there isn’t a ton of news out there today, but here are a few interesting posts to Tide you over.
Grace Raynor at the Athletic wrote about Alabama’s recent recruiting run.
“I feel good about the people we have committed and the people we’ve still got that are going to make their decision to come to Alabama,” said three-star linebacker Zay Hall, a Tuscaloosa, Ala., native who committed on June 27. “I feel like this is a great class, great people and great athletes for sure. But we ain’t done getting commits. I feel like it’ll probably be one of the greatest classes (in the country).
“I feel like (DeBoer) is a great recruiter. He breaks down things about football, of course, but (also) things outside of football that made parents feel good about their child being around him. … For his first time recruiting down here, he’s impressed a lot of people. He’s shocked a lot of people. He’s done an amazing job.”
Alabama’s next big target is in-state stud pass rusher Tank Jones, though Texas A&M has been rumored to lead with him.
Jones is a dynamic edge defender with the ability to both stop the run and get after the quarterback. He has strong hands and is aggressive at the point of attack, making it hard for offensive linemen to get their hands on him.
Though the Mobile native currently plays a role more akin to that of a Wolf in Kane Wommack’s system, the Crimson Tide may be looking at him as a Bandit candidate given his already 240 lb. build before the start of his senior season.
Regardless of where the 5-Star prospect winds up playing at the next level, Jones has shown the tools that will make him an elite college player and he would be a massive addition to the Tide’s already strong 2026 class.
SI is looking at the Iron Bowl this week.
Alabama will likely be the road favorites over Auburn for this late November matchup. However, like all contests during rivalry week, regular-season resumés are thrown out the window as upsets happen every year.
When Auburn comes to Tuscaloosa, the Tigers usually aren’t able to claw out with a win as Alabama has won the last seven games at Bryant-Denny Stadium by at least 10 points. But recent history shows that things go a bit off the rails when the Crimson Tide travels to Auburn.
Jalen Milroe connected with Isaiah Bond on a fourth-and-goal from the 31-yard line for a go-ahead touchdown on the road in 2023 and Bryce Young’s 97-yard drive led to a quadruple overtime win for Alabama in 2024. But UA fell to Auburn in three of the four road meetings (2013, 2017 and 2019) before those instant classics.
Last, with 57 days left before kickoff, Creg Stephenson is looking back on Bear Bryant’s 57 game Tuscaloosa win streak.
In 25 years as head coach at Alabama, Paul “Bear” Bryant lost a total of two games in Tuscaloosa.
One came on Oct. 12, 1963, a 10-6 loss to Florida at what was then Denny Stadium. The other was on Nov. 13, 1982, a 38-29 loss to Southern Miss that spoiled the coach’s final game at what had been renamed Bryant-Denny Stadium.
In between those two losses were 57 consecutive victories for Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Bryant’s final record at the stadium that now bears his name was 72-2.
That’s about it for today. Have a great holiday weekend.
Roll Tide.
