Sri Muppidi, who joined The Information late last year to cover venture capital and startups, will expand on her coverage of the business of the biggest AI startups to become a beat reporter on OpenAI and Anthropic.
Muppidi has regularly taken The Information’s readers deep inside the financial performance and projections of OpenAI, Anthropic and other fast-growing AI firms, as well as OpenAI’s relationships with key partners like Microsoft. This track record gives her a head start on covering the two leading AI firms during their next stage of growth.
As a reporting fellow at Business Insider, Muppidi scooped Index Ventures’ layoffs and numerous funding rounds for AI startups including Abnormal Security, Kong, Chainguard and Vanta. Previously she was a Marjorie Deane fellow at The Economist, where she wrote about Scale AI and other topics.
While working on her master’s in management science and engineering at Stanford, Muppidi co-founded Wordsmith AI, a startup developing an AI writing copilot, in 2018. She later worked as a product manager at fintech Capchase and spent four years as an investor at Emerson Collective and Sierra Ventures before realizing she would rather chase news than deals, as well as return to writing.
