MJF addressed fans for the first time since winning the AEW Championship in a charged promo on Dynamite this week, not including his foul-mouthed tirade at the Full Gear press conference. Waiting until Jon Moxley had left the arena to ensure they weren’t interrupted, MJF and the man who helped him win the title, William Regal made their way to the ring midway through the show.
MJF’s New Championship
MJF spoke on a number of topics while he had a mic in his hand, making sure to insult as many people as he could, both living and dead, in the process. The new champ’s insults weren’t reserved for living things alone. Friedman also had some pretty disparaging things to say about the title that now sits around his waist.
In fairness, the insults MJF was slinging on Dynamite were more targeted at the people who have held the title before him rather than the championship itself. That’s why the AEW Champion has now replaced it, at least for the duration of his reign. He and Regal eventually revealed what it was they had brought to the ring with them, unveiling an all-new version of the AEW Championship.
Triple B
MJF dubbed his new title the Triple B, the Big Burberry Belt. The champ is synonymous with Burberry in AEW due to the scarf he often wears to the ring. The brand’s iconic pattern can be seen across the strap of the redesigned title, but other than that, the championship appears to be more or less the same.
While this might well be the first example of an AEW World Champion getting a custom title, it isn’t anything new in wrestling, nor is it a new concept in AEW as a whole. There was an extended period during which almost every TNT Champion was introducing a new-look title more in-keeping with their style. Miro, for example, tweaked the TNT Championship so that it matched the colors of the Bulgarian flag.
