SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Jane Pitt, Missouri philanthropist and mother of actor Brad Pitt, has died at the age of 84, according to a social media post from her granddaughter.
Pitt was the mother of the actor, Springfield businessman Doug Pitt, and Julie Neal. She was born Aug. 13, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee, and she died Aug. 5 in Springfield.
Sidney Pitt, granddaughter of Jane, posted a tribute on Instagram earlier this morning, Aug. 6, to the late philanthropist.
“If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart,” Sidney wrote. “She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked.”
Sidney said Pitt could keep up with her 14 grandchildren “without missing a beat.”
An obituary published in the Springfield News-Leader says she attended Oklahoma Baptist University as a cheerleader, where she met het husband, Bill Pitt, in the university library. They married Aug. 11, 1962.
Pitt was an elementary school teacher in the beginning of her professional life. After raising her three children, she returned to Springfield Public Schools as one of the original ‘Parents As Teachers’ educators. She was also a longtime volunteer at the Pregnancy Care Center in Springfield.
Additionally, Pitt was a gifted artist, with painting being her preferred medium. She was a devoted member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield.
Jane is survived by her husband of over six decades, Bill; son Brad Pitt of Los Angeles and his children Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Knox, and Vivienne; son Doug Pitt and his wife Lisa of Springfield and their children Landon (Venice Beach), Sydney (Austin), and Reagan Pitt-Argaez and husband Niko (Chicago); daughter Julie Neal and husband Rob of Springfield and their children Caleb and wife Megan (Springfield), Josie Williams and husband John (Charlotte), Rylie Neal (Springfield), Caden Neal, and Cruz Neal.
