We’re looking for someone whose reporting, audience engagement and analysis will illuminate and explain complex issues. You’re adept at finding stories that influence public discourse and have real impact on policy and the people working to address the range of challenges the Twin Cities are facing, in part by holding those in power to account. You go beyond the latest headline and explain with authority what the news means and whom it will affect.
You have a track record of engaging both in person and online with the communities and people affected by local government policy, building relationships that lead to impactful stories. You know how to use that engagement to shape your beat and storytelling, fueling the type of rich dialogue and debate that will surface new connections and solutions to complex problems. You have acute news judgment and see yourself not only as an information gatherer, but a sense-maker and convener. And you’re eager to craft your work to meet your audience’s platform preferences.
You aim for your work to serve as a trusted guide equipping people to make changes in their communities through civic engagement or simply by talking with friends, family and neighbors about what matters. By adding context, rarely quoted or unique sources and by uncovering trends and key developments, you will improve access to high quality journalism about Minneapolis, St. Paul and occasionally the broader Twin Cities area.
Through republication partnerships, slots on local radio, podcasts and other platforms, and occasional MinnPost events, your work will expand MinnPost’s reach and impact while solidifying our place in the broader Twin Cities media ecosystem as a trusted, leading source for in-depth, explanatory journalism that engages and inspires.
You will be expected regularly to attend meetings and events in-person and work with colleagues and editors, contributing to a collaborative team committed to professional growth and engaging, retaining and growing audiences on multiple platforms.

- Adept at speaking about reporting and larger trends at events and on other media
