MANDEVILLE, La. (WGNO) — Following a trial which took place on Thursday, June 26, a Mandeville man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.
According to the Office of District Attorney Collin Sims, a teenaged girl told her mom that years earlier, a man who lived nearby, identified as 63-year-old Oscar Alfred Paysse, sexually assaulted her.
An investigation was then launched by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office which determined that, when the victim was 8 years old, she was approached by Paysse, whose daughter occasionally babysat her. Paysse claimed to have something in his house that he wanted to show the victim, coaxing the victim inside where she was then led to his bedroom and sexually assaulted.
Following the investigation, Paysse was arrested and charged with sexual battery of a child under the age of 13. After deliberating for under an hour, a jury found him guilty as charged.

Paysse is scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 6, with his crime carrying a sentence of up to 99 years in prison, of which at least 25 must be served without parole.
