A man defended himself after suffering a bullet wound by biting the tip off of one of his alleged attacker’s fingers, San Diego police said.
The incident began at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday in Miramar when a 47-year-old male allegedly fired two rounds from a handgun at a 23-year-old victim on a trail at 10000 Maya Linda Road.
A bullet grazed the younger man’s lower torso, police said in a news release. When a physical struggle ensued after the shooting, he bit the tip of the older man’s middle finger in self-defense.
Both men were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Officers arrested the older man on assault with deadly weapon charges and also recovered a firearm that officials said was used in the attack.
Northeastern area detectives are handling the investigation.
