JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Jefferson Parish judge sentenced a man to 40 years in prison on Wednesday, June 25 for killing a man by wrapping his face and torso with duct tape, leaving him unable to breathe or free himself.
According to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney, 47-year-old Saleh Omar was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of 29-year-old Mohamed Mezlini on April 24.
Judge Lee Faulkner of the 24th Judicial District Court sentenced Omar to the maximum punishment for manslaughter. He noted Omar’s use of duct tape was “particularly heinous.” He said he felt Omar got a windfall from the jury in convicting him of the lesser offense.
