INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man who was arrested early in the morning on Father’s Day is now filing a formal complaint against the officers involved.
Devin Hunt told I-Team 8 this is just the first step in the process as he goes after the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers who arrested him.
Multiple angles of Hunt’s arrest were showed to I-Team 8 by the Indianapolis Liberation Center during a news conference supporting Hunt’s complaint.
One angle showed Hunt in a verbal argument with someone else. As an officer approached them, they separated. That’s when an officer puts his hand on Hunt. Hunt swipes it away before the officer shoots him in the chest with pepper balls, which he still has marks from.
“It looks weird, and it’s irritating to me because my chest didn’t look like that,” Hunt said.
The video then shows the officer taking Hunt to the ground.
According to Hunt, his complaint is about, “All of the extra stuff.”
That extra stuff could be seen in a new angle that I-Team hasn’t reported before. You can see an officer punching Hunt in the side three times as other officers have control of him on the ground.
“There’s so many officers, you don’t have to do that to people,” Hunt said. “What you throwing punches for? Like, why are you throwing punches?”
Since his arrest, IMPD sent a detective to see Hunt.
“He asked me for a statement and I’m like, ‘Why would I give a statement to y’all and y’all the ones who did it to me?” Hunt said.
IMPD would not go on camera, but the agency sent the following statement to I-Team 8:
“As with all uses of force, this incident is undergoing a thorough administrative review, in accordance with IMPD’s General Orders. Every use of force is carefully evaluated to determine whether it was reasonable based on the totality of the circumstances and consistent with department policy.”

“I am feeling like I have to take this a step further because there’s no responsibility or accountability being taken,” Hunt said.
As of the publishing of this article, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has not filed charges against Hunt. With the complaint officially filed, Hunt told I-Team 8 his next step is to get a lawyer to sue the city.
