JEFFERSON PARISH (WGNO) — A woman was sentenced on Monday, June 30 for stabbing an 84-year-old woman to death in her Metairie apartment.
According to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office, 25-year-old Irielle Love was sentenced to life in prison plus 40 years for the murder of Dory Sierra. She was convicted on June 18.
“You acted like a monster that day,” Judge Brindisi told Love in announcing the sentences. “You took her life and now we’re stuck with you. It’s not very fair to us.”
The DA’s office said on December 1, 2020, Love was in Sierra’s apartment complex seeking a new apartment. Love entered Sierra’s apartment and stabbed her 10 times. Evidence suggested Love pepper sprayed Sierra during the attack.
Love then stole Sierra’s cell phone and the $280 she had set aside to pay her bills. Love’s fingerprint was found on the interior of the apartment floor. Detectives also used geolocation technology to determine Love and Sierra’s cell phones were together as Love walked away from the murder scene.
In addition to the sentence, the judge also ordered Love to pay a $100,000 fine.
