Police are crediting the use of technology in the arrest of a pair of suspected mail thieves in Orange County.
“Recently, one of our license plate readers stamped out a possible mail theft suspect visiting our fine city,” the Irvine Police Department posted on Facebook Monday night.
The reader alerted officers to a vehicle that was parked near a mailbox bank on the north end of the city. “Where else would a letter looter park?” police stated in the post.
Arriving officers found that one of the people inside the vehicle was on probation and conducted a search.
“Inside the car, officers found a large trash bag full of mail and mailbox keys,” police said.
Two suspects, identified as 54-year-old Tristian Quang Le of Anaheim and 49-year-old Terri Thuy Vellpradit of Garden Grove, were arrested on suspicion of felony ID theft, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy.
Both were “packaged up and delivered” to Orange County Jail, police said.
