The June 13 episode of WWE SmackDown was quite a show as we continued down our short road to Night of Champions. That included another King of the Ring tournament match.
This week’s SmackDown saw Cody Rhodes vs. Andrade vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Damian Priest compete in another match in the tournament. Earlier in the night, Randy Orton was able to pull down the win to advance.
This fatal four-way match went down as the main event of the night. Fans were very excited to see it get started, even though Shinsuke Nakamura wasted some time in a classic heel move to start things off.
This match carried on through a commercial break. Andrade was able to stun fans with a moonsault, but Cody Rhodes had the fans firmly behind him as they chanted for the American Nightmare. They also exploded when Rhodes brought out a Slim Jim branded table and set it up at ringside. Damian Priest and Cody Rhodes tried to team up to suplex Andrade through the table, but Shinsuke stopped them. Then Nakamura sent Rhodes through the table as they cut to another commercial break.
Cody Rhodes started to rally and fans were all behind him. Then Nakamura nailed a Kinshasa for a near fall as the match kept going. Andrade nearly had the win after hitting The Message on Damian Priest, but Nakamura broke up the pinfall. In the end, Cody Rhodes nailed a top rope Cody Cutter on Priest and a Crossroads on Andrade. Then Nakamura stopped him, but he ate a Crossroads too for the pinfall. Now, Cody Rhodes will advance in the 2025 King of the Ring tournament.
Sami Zayn also beat Bron Breakker, Penta, and Dominik Mysterio during the first qualifying match on Monday’s RAW. We will have to see who moves on to Night of Champions to compete in Saudi Arabia.
