Brock Lesnar’s WWE future has been one of the hottest topics in wrestling this year — and one veteran believes it might all blow over eventually, depending on what comes next. But there’s no ignoring the legal storm Lesnar’s name is caught up in, and that’s a major reason why he’s not on TV right now.
During a recent appearance on Inside the Ropes, Eugene weighed in on Lesnar’s situation, after the interviewer described him as being in a “tough spot” with WWE. Eugene compared Lesnar’s predicament to past scandals involving Hulk Hogan, saying time could help fans move on — unless more damaging information comes out.
“Obviously right now it’s kind of a tough spot because he’s kind of being ostracized at the moment. I think it depends if anything else comes out. If that is all that comes out and that’s all that happened, then I don’t think so. I think it might—it could probably be forgotten, much like, uh, I hate to say, Hulkster had a little incident in the past that I think after time people just might remember but kind of not—not ostracize him for it.”
Eugene stressed that it all depends on whether new details emerge, saying:
“And I think if—if what Brock’s done, which I don’t think the text message or whatever it was was that horrible, but if there’s anything more, then it might get dirty, might get messy.”
Of course, there’s a lot more to the story. Lesnar’s name has been heavily linked to the ongoing Janel Grant lawsuit against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE. That lawsuit rocked the company earlier this year and has been a major factor in WWE’s internal shakeups.
Grant’s lawsuit alleges that she was “ordered” to send sexually explicit content of herself to Lesnar at Vince McMahon’s request. While Lesnar isn’t being sued or formally accused of wrongdoing, his name being tied to the case caused immediate fallout — including his planned WrestleMania storyline with GUNTHER being scrapped.
WWE sources have confirmed to Ringside News that Lesnar won’t be returning to television until the lawsuit is resolved. With both sides preparing to fight the case to the bitter end, a comeback for The Beast Incarnate doesn’t appear to be in the cards anytime soon.
