NEW MEXICO (KRQE) — A flash flood watch has been issued across portions of New Mexico on Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The watch is expected to expire at 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Thunderstorms moving slowly north with rainfall rates of one to two inches per hour are expected. The watch impacts portion of central, north central, and northeast New Mexico:
- Central New Mexico –
- South Central Mountains
- North Central New Mexico –
- East Slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains
- Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains
- Northeast New Mexico –
- Northeast Highlands
The Ruidoso area burn scars as well as the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon burn scar are also included in the watch. Excessive runoff could cause rivers, creeks, and streams to flood. This could also impact low-lying and flood-prone areas. River banks and culverts could become unstable and unsafe.
