Stolen/Recovered Vehicle: Someone stole a vehicle, which was left unlocked with the keys inside it, from the O’Reilly Auto Parts parking lot on Prospect Road. The vehicle, valued at approximately $8,000, was later located abandoned in Cupertino.
Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone used their personal information to obtain a student loan for an unknown total loss.
July 15
Forgery: Someone obtained a City of Saratoga check and then altered and passed the check for approximately $4,456.
Commercial burglary: At 1:26 a.m., someone entered Gu-eum Cake and Bakery in the Westgate Corner shopping center on Prospect Road by prying open a rear door. It is unknown if anything was stolen.
July 16
Theft by false pretense, identity theft: Someone telephoned a Saratoga resident acting as a lender, claimed the victim was approved for a loan, obtained the victim’s personal information, and convinced the victim to provide money via gift cards as a requirement to obtain the loan money. The victim was also tricked into making several cash app deposits to various cryptocurrency accounts. The total loss was approximately $6,500.
July 17
Vandalism: Between 8:30 a.m. and 3:10 p.m., someone scratched a vehicle parked at Marshall Lane Elementary School on Marilyn Lane. The total amount of damage was estimated at approximately $5,000.
