LOUISVILLE, Ky. – This week, a former Glasgow Lady Scottie golfer put up an incredible comeback outing in Louisville to win the 29th Kentucky Women’s Open.
Just a year after winning the 96th Kentucky Women’s State Amateur, Abbie Lee shot a scorching 7-under on day two of the competition, with help from a career-best five straight birdies, leading to a 5-under par finish and some hardware.
Lee shared that the key to her success was staying patient after that first day, with a lot of golf to go, and just one day later she was able to put up a remarkable 18-hole performance to win the tournament.
Lee is entering her fifth college season at Middle Tennessee State University and is making sure to stay active during the summer because golf is one of those sports where it’s easy to build rust.
Now that the NCAA has granted Lee one more season, following a blood clot in her left leg as a junior, she is thrilled to have the chance to compete one last time as a Blue Raider.
“ I’m living my dream right now playing college golf. I’ve got great teammates, incredible coaches,” Lee said. “I looked at my coach on the last round of conference and I was like, ‘I’m so glad that this is not my last event because I think I’d be inconsolable right now. I’d be so sad because it’s been such a huge part of my life.’ I keep joking and telling people that I’m playing ‘Peter Pan’ and I don’t want to grow up yet. I’m just going to keep playing golf and go to school as long as they’ll have me, so yeah, I could not be more excited.”
