India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan recently grabbed attention during his County Championship stint with Nottinghamshire, not only for his batting exploits but also for a rare appearance with the ball. During a drawn match against Somerset on July 2, Kishan tried his hand at bowling and was seen imitating the legendary Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh’s action.
Having been left out of India’s ongoing tour of England, Kishan has been busy playing County cricket. He has already scored two fifties in his first two red-ball appearances for Nottinghamshire. After scoring 87 on debut against Yorkshire, the southpaw followed it up with a 77 against Somerset in Taunton.
During the final over of the match, Kishan was handed the ball. For his very first delivery, he imitated Harbhajan’s famous bowling action, bowling from over the wicket to Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who was nearing a big hundred. He continued the over with two conventional off-spin deliveries before switching his angle to bowl around the wicket. From there, he bowled leg-spin. Though his final delivery was far wide of the batter, the umpire chose not to call it a wide. Kishan ended the over by giving just a single run.

Meanwhile, earlier, Jack Haynes scored 157, Ben Slater hit 124, while Kishan scored 77 off 106 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. His knock included a memorable six off Matt Henry over fine leg. He reached his half-century in 83 balls and added 138 runs with Haynes for the fifth wicket. Though he was eventually dismissed by Jack Leach, who took 6 wickets in the innings, Kishan’s innings helped Nottinghamshire post a 509 in reply to Somerset’s 379.
