Former world No. 4 James Blake absolutely believes that the Big Four existed at some point and that Andy Murray was legit during his prime. Murray, 34, has reached 11 Grand Slam finals over the course of his career but has won just Major titles.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer each have 20 Grand Slams in their collection. Murray has had two major hip surgeries since 2017 and since then he hasn’t been a contender for Grand Slam titles.

“I totally agree. It’s the Big Four. Obviously, it has become a Big Three since his injury. I agree that Andy Murray was the guy that absolutely could win a Grand Slam. He had the unfortunate luck of being some many times the runner-up to those Big Three in Slam finals,” Blake said during his appearance on Tennis Channel.

Murray believes he has earned the right to receive wild cards

Former world No. 1 Murray has received a number of wild cards this year but he believes he has earned those wild cards. “I’m grateful that they have given me the opportunity to play here,” Murray said in Indian Wells.

“But do I feel bad about it? No, I don’t feel bad about it. “After what I’ve gone through the last three, four years and what I’ve achieved for the game beforehand, I don’t feel like I need to justify the reasons for why I should get wild cards.”

Murray is now ranked at No. 121 in the world and he would love to improve his ranking and get direct entries into tournaments. “I’d rather get in by right, obviously, but then I could also argue that for three years I was out injured when I would have rightfully been entered into all of these tournaments,” Murray continued.

“I would’ve been ranked at the top of the game and would’ve been getting into all of these tournaments so (other) players would have obviously had the opportunity to take that spot for the last three seasons or whatever.”
