Ipswich Town have now joined the race to sign an “untouchable” defender who has 20 international caps to his name, according to a report.
Ipswich set sights on another new centre-back
Ipswich have already bolstered their options at centre-back this summer, with the signing of Cedric Kipre leaving Kieran McKenna relatively well-stocked, given that the manager already has the likes of Dara O’Shea and Jacob Greaves on the books.
However, McKenna has also admitted that his squad is not yet at the standard he would like for a side with promotion ambitions, saying: “Our squad needs to be stronger if we want to consider ourselves one of the top teams in the division. We know we’re a long way off where we could be this season, we know we have a lot of work to do.”
With Omari Hutchinson joining Nottingham Forest in a £37.5m deal, the Tractor Boys will need to bolster their options in attacking areas, but the huge transfer fee should also allow them to also strengthen their squad in different areas.
As such, it could make sense to bring in another new option at centre-back, and McKenna’s side have now joined the race for a new target…
That is according to a report from TWTD, which states Ipswich Town are now eyeing a move for Club America defender Sebastian Caceres, with more movement expected in the squad before the transfer window closes on September 1st.
Caceres has been very successful during his time with the Mexican side, winning three Primera División titles, a Campeón de Campeones and a Supercopa MX, and he could now be ready to test himself in the Championship.
However, it is unclear what sort of fee it would take to prise the defender away from Club America, and a move may be considered surprising, given that McKenna already has a number of options at centre-back.
“Untouchable” Caceres could be fantastic signing for Ipswich
It could be considered a real coup if Ipswich were able to lure the Uruguayan to Portman Road, given that he is very well established at international level, having amassed 20 caps for his national side.
The Montevideo-born centre-back has also performed very well from a defensive point of view over the course of the past year, outperforming the vast majority of his positional peers in tackles and interceptions.

Not only that, but the 25-year-old has also received very high praise for his performances at international level, with journalist Rodrigo Romano once dubbing the Uruguay international as “untouchable”.
That said, it should not be a priority to bring in a new centre-back, given that McKenna already has plenty of options in that area of the pitch, and it will be more important to sign a forward following Hutchinson’s departure to Nottingham Forest.
