NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New Mexico is home to multiple schools of higher learning. U.S. News & World Report recently released a study that pitted universities in the Land of Enchantment against over 2,000 schools that span the globe. The University of New Mexico (UNM) and New Mexico State University (NMSU) made the list.
UNM came in at #445 with a global score of 54.1. They ranked high (#135) in regional research reputation and in Ecology (#156). The school tied for its spot with five other schools: Nantes Université in France, Northeastern University in China, Prince Sultan University in Jordan, University of Massachusetts Worcester, and Xidian University from China.
NMSU was a little lower on the list at #951 and had a global score of 41.7. It ranked #214 in Space Science and #399 in Agricultural Sciences.
To determine their ranking, U.S. News & World Report looked at 2,250 schools from a pool of 2,346 across 105 countries. The rankings were made using the online research tool Clarivate. The top 250 universities of Clarivate’s global reputation survey were included, along with other institutions that met the minimum threshold of at least 1,250 papers published from 2019 to 2023.
After that, 13 indicators and weights were used. These included things like global research reputation, publications, conferences, and normalized citation impact.
