HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) — Huntington University hosted Governor Mike Braun for the ceremonial signing of Senate Enrolled Act 306 on Thursday.
This bill benefits Hoosier creatives and filmmakers with tax incentives.
Many speakers attended, including Governor Braun, State Senator Andy Zay, who authored the bill, Mayor Richard Strick, and other key stakeholders.
Zay says this bill has been in the works for two to three years, calling it a team effort to get this legislation up and running. Speakers also touched on the economic impact this could bring, as Zay said, for every dollar of tax incentives offered by the state, the state receives six to seven dollars back in economic activity.
Braun added that this bill is a good start to making more films right here in Indiana.
“This is just taking what we had out there that wasn’t practical in its form,” he said. “This should be the start of hopefully making Indiana a place where you’re going to see all kinds of film stuff done. I’m an entrepreneur, way before I got into politics, I can see the potential right here could be the whole nucleus for how that begins today.”
