How Philippe Coutinho’s classy gesture opened door to Villa switch/Effect on Ferran Torres revealed

An insight into the role played by Philippe Coutinho in his move from FC Barcelona to Aston Villa coming to fruition has, on Friday, been provided.

Villans switch

News of Coutinho’s Premier League return was of course confirmed earlier today.

Amid yet another hugely underwhelming campaign in Spain with the aforementioned Barcelona, the Brazilian was long tipped to be moved on this month, if a suitor could be found.

Few, however, could have predicted just which club would eventually step up to the plate.

Despite links with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and former employers Liverpool, Coutinho, ultimately, made the move to Villa Park, to link up with Aston Villa.

The 29-year-old returns to England for the remainder of the campaign, as part of a 6-month loan agreement:

Coutinho’s role

Just how, though, did the transfer eventually come to fruition?

Well, as alluded to above, an insight into precisely that has been provided on Friday evening, in the process unveiling the central role played by Coutinho himself in Villa pushing an agreement over the line.

As per a report from reliable Catalan outlet Esport3, the Brazilian international facilitated his Premier League comeback by agreeing to a considerable cut in his wage packet with Barcelona.

This, in turn, allowed the Blaugrana to get Coutinho completely off their books for the 2nd-half of the season, with Villa having taken on the entirety of their loan addition’s salary across this stretch.

Not only that, but the gesture also proved crucial in guiding Barca towards finally registering winter addition Ferran Torres, in clearing the bulk of the required sum from the club’s bloated wage bill.
