Some big names are mourning the death of heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne.
“So sad to hear the news of Ozzy Osbourne passing away,” Elton John wrote on Instagram. “He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods – a true legend. He was also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I will miss him dearly. To Sharon and the family, I send my condolences and love.”
Heavy metal band Metallica posted a photo of the band alongside the Prince of Darkness with a broken heart emoji.
“No words. We love you Ozzy,” wrote Green Day front man Billy Joe Armstrong on Instagram.
“Bye, bye Ozzy. Sleep well, my friend. I’ll see you up there- later rather than sooner,” wrote fellow English musician Rod Stewart.
“The Red Rocker” Sammy Hagar also paid tribute to Osbourne on Instagram.
“Ozzy Osbourne was and will always be a one of a kind true rock legend. For him to have been that close to death on July 5 and still get up there and perform like he promised… Wow! That puts him in a category of his own,” the former Van Halen member wrote. “Talk about commitment and loyalty to your fans. Nobody’s going to outdo that ever! RIP, my brother, you did it all.”
Osbourne’s death comes weeks after his farewell performance with Black Sabbath.
“I am so very sad to hear of the death of Ozzy Osbourne. What a lovely goodbye concert he had at Back To The Beginning in Birmingham,” wrote the legendary Ronnie Wood.
Fellow MTV reality star Bam Margera wrote, “Legends never die. I’m grateful to have shared this moment with Ozzy Osbourne hosting at the VH1 Rock Honors in Vegas. Rest in power Ozzy… your spirit, your voice, and your madness will echo forever,” he wrote on social media. “Jack, Kelly, and Sharon… my wife and I share your pain. Our love and condolences to you.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s influence expanded to other genres.
Hip-hop legend Flavor Flav paid homage to Osbourne with a post on Instagram, writing, “RIP Ozzy. Proud to have known you, gonna miss you being here physically. Much love to Sharon, Ozzy’s kids, and all his family and friends.”
Actor Jason Momoa, who joined Osbourne on stage at Villa Park in Birmingham earlier this month, posted a photo of him alongside the rocker and his wife Sharon, writing: “Love you Ozzy Osbourne. All my aloha Sharon Osbourne and ohana. So grateful. RIP.”
The X account for Black Sabbath simply wrote, “Ozzy Forever!”
Adam Sandler posted a photo of Osbourne in his 2000 movie “Little Nicky,” and wrote: “Whether we were in our basements with our brothers, in the woods with our buddies, in the car, at a keg party, on a boat, at football practice, at a sleepover….Nobody was more badass to crank up on our speakers than the one and only prince of darkness – Ozzy Osborne! Loved him a lot like we all did! Sending love to the family and so happy to have spent time with the legend himself. RIP.”
On Tuesday morning, Osbourne’s family revealed he had passed away at 76 years old.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time,” his family said in a statement they posted on X.
He leaves behind his wife Sharon and six children: Kelly, Aimee and Jack, who he shares with Sharon, and Jessica, Louis and Elliot, who he shares with first wife Thelma Riley. He also leaves behind grandchildren.
