Holger Rune’s season has been characterized by too many ups and downs so far, with the young Danish star showing his enormous potential only at times. The former world number 4 lifted a trophy in the first half of 2025 – more precisely the Barcelona ATP 500 – playing truly stellar tennis that also allowed him to beat world number 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Many experts and insiders thought that that triumph and his feeling with the red clay allowed Rune to shine at Roland Garros and the Wimbledon Championships, instead he again showed all his weaknesses by obtaining disappointing results for a talent of his caliber.
Holger did some practice sessions with American legend Andre Agassi before the start of the Washington ATP 500, a tournament he did not participate in due to back discomfort. Subsequently, Rune clarified that Agassi would not become his coach but that he would help him with his advice.

After disappointing in Toronto, the Danish star had a strong debut at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 and confessed that her relationship with Agassi is moving forward.
“It’s still ongoing. We’re still chatting a little bit on the phone. He just messaged me also after my match, so it’s nice. He’s such a nice guy as I’ve said” – he said in an interview with ‘Tennis Channel’.
“And also we spoke a little bit after Toronto as well, what I can do better, and we had some talk on the phone, small specific things that, you know, I can make it easier for myself and play better. So it’s always nice to share thoughts through him.
He’s so much into tennis and into all the small things happening. You know, he remembers points you know, that I also remember, but I’m sure you know if you talk to probably whole of my team they don’t remember the points. So he’s so much into it which is amazing. So I think it’s just really exciting to share this view with him.”
