Richard Ruelas and Catherine Reagor of the Arizona Republic write about business journalist Jon Talton, who died this week at 69.
Ruelas and Reagor write, “‘When Jon returned to work in Arizona after years away, he saw the Phoenix metro area with fresh eyes,’ said Kathy Tulumello, Arizona Republic news director, who was business editor during Talton’s time at The Republic.
“‘He wrote columns of visceral directness about the region’s overdependence on the housing industry and other flaws he saw in the local economy.
“‘Frankly, it was jarring for many to hear. Jon grabbed the attention of community leaders and spurred a very important conversation long before the Great Recession proved his instincts to be right on target.’”
