Hotter weather continues to move into New Mexico this weekend. Albuquerque and other places in the state will likely see their first 100° day of the year.
Temperatures continue to heat up across New Mexico Friday afternoon. Several places in southern parts of the climbed into the triple-digits with the 90s up to Santa Fe and southern Colorado once again. A few storms popped up in eastern New Mexico this afternoon, but these storms are much more isolated than what we’ve seen the last few days. Those storms have moved out of the state tonight as temperatures stay warm overnight.
A near-record strong area of high pressure will build over the state this weekend. This will bring not only the hottest weather so far this year, but also near-record and a few record high temperatures Sunday. Triple-digit high temperatures will be possible as far north as Albuquerque and Farmington. Drier air will continue to move into the state as well. A few spotty showers will still be possible in the afternoons around the Sacramento Mountains and near the Texas state line in eastern New Mexico.
The near-record and record breaking heat will continue into next Monday. High temperatures will be a couple degrees cooler Tuesday and Wednesday. But this will be short lived before they climb again Wednesday and Thursday. Dry air will continue with very little to no chances for rain into the end of next week.
