COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Hawai’i football team swept all four of the Mountain West’s player of the week awards following a season-opening 23-20 victory over Stanford last Saturday at Clarence T.C. Ching Complex in Honolulu.
Quarterback Micah Alejado won both Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors; safety Kilinahe Mediola-Jensen was Defensive Player of the Week; and placekicker Kansei Matsuzawa earned the Special Teams Player of the Week award.
All three were instrumental in UH’s first win over an Autonomous Four conference opponent since 2019. The win was Hawai’i’s third walk-off since 2023 – all of which were by field goals on the last play of the game.
Alejado has now won both Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors after both of his starts. In his first career start in last season’s regular season finale against New Mexico, the Las Vegas, Nev., native amassed 523 yards of total offense, including 469 through the air and five touchdowns in a 38-30 victory. In that game, he set new UH freshman records for passing yards and passing touchdowns.
