The south suburb of Harvey confirmed on Friday morning the death of Mayor Christopher Clark.
In a statement, the city said it “is deeply saddened” to report Clark’s death and extended its condolences to the mayor’s family, loved ones and members of the Harvey community “during this difficult time.”
“Mayor Clark was a devoted public servant and a dear personal friend. His integrity, vision and love for the City of Harvey will continue to guide us as we grieve his loss in service to the residents of Harvey, with our hearts foremost with his family.” Keri-Lyn J. Krafthefer, Harvey corporation counsel/city attorney, said in a statement.
Details about Clark’s passing weren’t immediately released. The city said it was “working closely with the mayor’s family and will share additional information when appropriate.”
Harvey’s city council will nominate and vote for a new acting mayor, who will be chosen from one of six alderman. The vote is planned for a special city council meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday.
Clark, a former alderman, was first elected as mayor in 2019 and was reelected to a second term in 2023.
