NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — At the head of the dining room table, performing a feast of a show is the chef who used to dish up dishes at the White House.
Now he’s making a guest appearance in New Orleans at the Degas House.
His name is Marti Mongiello.
WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood is sitting down at the table with him.
For 30 years, Mongiello was on call for presidents and a long list of Washington, D.C. taste buds.
“Calvin Coolidge showed up in the kitchen one day angry, with a skillet in his hand looking menacing and said ‘who’s making the little pancakes around here. In Vermont we have huge dinner plate flap jacks. Thats how i want them from now on.'” said Mongiello.
These days, he slices, dices and delivers as the CEO of the Presidential Culinary Museum.
Yes, there really is such a place.
It’s in Grover, North Carolina. That’s named for President Grover Cleveland.
“People are always asking ‘What are they eating?, What are you serving today?, What’s on the menu?” said Mongiello.
