A 21-year-old Matteson man carrying a loaded gun and impersonating a police officer was arrested Thursday afternoon during anti-ICE protests in the Loop, police and sources say.
Officers spotted the man, who was sporting a t-shirt and backpack with the word police on it, around 5 p.m. in the 200 block of South Michigan Avenue, Chicago police and sources said.
The man, who had a loaded gun, was asked for his credentials before he was arrested and allegedly told officers as a “peace” officer, he didn’t need a concealed carry license, sources said.
Charges were pending, officials said.
Hundreds of people marched Thursday evening through downtown Chicago as part of continuing nationwide demonstrations against President Donald Trump’s months-long campaign against immigration.
Thursday’s protest remained largely conflict-free. That’s in contrast to two rallies Tuesday when thousands of people crowded the streets downtown and a few scuffles between protesters and police officers resulted in 17 people arrested. A motorist also plowed through that protest, hitting a woman.
