Green for Greene Environmental Job Training Graduation Set for Friday
A total of 15 graduates who have earned multiple credentials through the Green for Greene environmental job training program will be recognized at a graduation ceremony on Friday, June 27, at 10 a.m. at the Missouri Job Center, 1661 N. Boonville in Springfield.
The EPA grant-funded program offers no cost instruction to participants that enables them to find jobs in fields such as environmental clean-up, over-the-road hauling of hazardous materials, construction, and advanced manufacturing among other career paths.
“We are grateful to EPA Region 7 for providing funding that allows us to continue this vital program which changes the trajectory of people’s lives,” said Amanda Ohlensehlen, Director of Workforce & Economic Vitality for the City of Springfield. Since 2016, we have trained 394 individuals in areas such as lead, mold and asbestos abatement, trenching and excavating, flagger, bloodborne pathogens, first aid/CPR along with many other credentials,” she added.
“For the first time, we expanded the training program to include a special session offered this spring which focused on CDL training with Hazmat endorsement and HAZWOPER certifications,” said Carmen May, Green for Greene program supervisor. “In May we hosted the special session with 6 students and then followed that class with the traditional four-week session with 9 enrolled, for a total of 15 graduates,” May said.
Graduates of the four-week session have earned credentials in OSHA-10, OSHA 40 – HAZWOPER, trenching & excavating, confined space, lead renovation repair & paint, lead abatement, asbestos handler, mold abatement, silica, flagger, bloodborne pathogens, scaffolding, fall protection, lockout/tagout, and first aid/CPR. Special session graduates earned credentials in OHSA 40 – HAZWOPER and CDL with Hazmat endorsement.
