MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — For many families, getting the kids on the school bus in the morning is a mundane part of the morning routine. One local grandmother has turned it into an exciting event for the whole neighborhood.

From a jacked “Incredible Hulk” ready to unleash his strength, to a laid-back giraffe rider, Patty Mangino’s collection of costumes is impressive. That’s why the kids on the bus and neighbors on the street can’t wait to see what she’ll come up with next.

“My granddaughter lives next door, and when the bus went by, I would wave to her, and I started to bring out some of her animal stuffed animals and I’d move their arm and wave. Well, it got to be too much, because she would ask, ‘what are you going to do tomorrow?’”
To kick things up a notch, Mangino started taking on the role of the stuffed animal, becoming a new character every Friday to wave the kids off.
On the last day of school, for her grand finale costume debut, the anticipation was palpable. Over 30 friends and family members lined the street to cheer, wave and celebrate.
How does that saying go? No more teachers, no more books…and a round of applause for grandma’s creative looks.
