A New Hampshire man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly led police on a chase through downtown Lincoln and onto an ATV trail near Interstate 95.
Nathan Fortier, 24, of Amherst, New Hampshire, has been charged with eluding an officer, operating without a license and theft by unauthorized taking, according to Lincoln police Chief Lee Miller.
Police began searching for a black Ford F-250 allegedly driven by Fortier after receiving a call around 5:30 p.m. about a vehicle matching that description striking and damaging a private gate and — separately — of an individual driving that vehicle stealing kayaks in the area of White Point Estates Road, Miller said Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Daren Mason located the Ford in Lincoln’s downtown and attempted to stop it, but Fortier allegedly fled, prompting police to pursue him.
He abandoned the truck near an ATV trail and continued fleeing on foot, where he was subsequently arrested without incident, according to Miller.
Fortier, who is on parole in New Hampshire, was taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor. Miller said additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
