INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One person was taken to the hospital Friday morning after a fire at a popular soul food restaurant on the city’s near north side.
Just after 9 a.m., crews from the Indianapolis Fire Department were dispatched to an alarm at Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place, 1831 College Ave.
IFD Battalion Chief Scott Olofson told News 8 the fire was accidentally started by welders working inside the building.
Two workers suffered smoke inhalation. One of them was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in “good shape,” Olofoson says. The other was being treated at the scene.
Olofson says the damage doesn’t have a dollar amount, but the fire damage was contained to one area. He expects most of the damage will be from water.
