Caltrans contractors will close all lanes of sections of State Route 78 near Mar Vista Drive starting Monday, Aug. 11, through Thursday, Aug. 14, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. These closures will allow crews to conduct demolition of portions of the bridge for improvements and expansion work. Detour signage will be in place to guide motorists around these closures.
SR-78 Westbound Detour: Westbound lanes will be closed on Monday, Aug. 11, and Tuesday, Aug. 12, from Sycamore Avenue to Vista Village Drive. Westbound motorist will exit at Sycamore Avenue, turn left on Sycamore Avenue, turn right on South Melrose Drive, turn right on Hacienda Drive, turn left on Vista Village Drive, then turn left onto the westbound SR-78 onramp.
SR-78 Eastbound Detour: Eastbound lanes will be closed on Wednesday, Aug.13, and Thursday, Aug. 14, from Civic Center Drive to Sycamore Avenue.
Motorist may exit at Civic Center Drive, turn left on Civic Center Drive, turn right on Santa Fe Avenue, turn right onto Robelin Drive, then left to the eastbound SR-78 onramp. Or alternatively, a flagger will be directing motorists off Mar Vista Drive and allowing them to continue straight onto the SR-78 eastbound onramp.
Mar Vista Bridge Detour:
Eastbound detour: Eastbound Mar Vista Drive motorists may turn right onto Thibodo Road and continue to turn left onto Sycamore Avenue. Proceed onto Sycamore Avenue onramp to west SR-78 and exit on Mar Vista Drive.
Westbound detour: Motorists may continue on eastbound Mar Vista Drive, then turn right on S. Santa Fe Ave, turn right onto Robelin Drive, and proceed onto Sycamore Ave. Then turn right on Thibodo Road and turn left onto Mar Vista Drive.
This work will be performed at night under the protection of temporary freeway lane closures for enhanced crewmember protection and the safety of the traveling public. Nearby residents and businesses can expect increased traffic on the detour route, construction noise, and lights during this activity, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration-required vehicle back-up alarms. Crews will work to minimize noise and impacts to all nearby communities. The maintenance work schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic incidents, or other maintenance considerations.
