NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Many of you saw patriotic displays of red, white and blue line the sky on Friday’s Fourth of July, but here’s something you don’t see every year.
While Dave MacDonald was viewing the “Go 4th on the River” fireworks with his family, not only did they see an array of colors they also caught glimpse of lightning in the skies.
The fireworks show could be viewed from both the East and West Banks of the Mississippi River around the Hilton New Orleans Riverside through the French Market District.
Yes, the combination of fireworks and lightning can be potentially dangerous.
In fact, many times fireworks will often be canceled or postponed due to the presence of lightning as it poses many risks — including the fact that lightning may on occasion actually set off fireworks prematurely.

Thanks so much, Dave, for this awesome snap! 🙂
