NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Saturday, Aug. 9 is the annual Red Dress Run in New Orleans, where thousands of folks head to the French Quarter to run and party wearing red dresses.
New Orleans has House Harriers put on the event which raises money for local charities.
Picking the perfect red dress is no easy task, especially for men.
WGNO’s Kenny Lopez takes us shopping at Buffalo Exchange in Uptown New Orleans.
A group of Newman High School football players are shopping for their red dresses, but it is proving to be harder than they thought.
JB Lawrence, Malcom Schairer and Emeric Laborde are the friends looking for red dresses. They said this is their first time going to the Red Dress Run.
Good thing that the store manager at New Orleans’ Buffalo Exchange, Denise Lyons is here to help them find a dress that fits.
“We probably have about 800 red dresses left. We started with about 1,000 red dresses. I normally tell the men when they come in looking for red dresses that if they are normally a medium in men’s sizes, than in a dress they should look in the large sizes,” she said.
Lyons said they have linen red dresses, sparkly red dresses, corseted red dresses, ruffled red dresses and so many to choose from at Buffalo Exchange.
“I even found this amazing sparkly dress. The brand is ‘Queen of Sparkle,’ that is the brand that LSU Women’s Basketball Coach Kim Mulkey wears,” Lyons said.
The Red Dress Run is this Saturday, registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and the race begins at 11:00 a.m. at Armstrong Park.
