LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — Firefighters with Mountain View Fire Rescue say a recent move to a new, bigger headquarters is making their job more efficient — as made evident in an incident involving an abandoned pool on Monday.
In late June, Mountain View held its official grand opening at a facility in Niwot. A spokesperson for the department says the building is 38,000 square feet, compared to just 12,000 square feet for the old building.
The building comes complete with space for EMS training, academy training, and even offices for a Boulder County Sheriff’s Substation.
No fire trucks or engines are housed at the new headquarters, but a room is reserved for Mobile Data Terminals, which are essentially computers that feed information to fire trucks and fire engines.
Even the new address is considered more centrally located to be able to get to emergencies quickly, which was seen with a grass fire that was started by a homeowner in an abandoned pool just west of Niwot.
Mountain View Fire Rescue firefighters are grateful that Monday’s plan in place, paid off with no homes or lives lost.
“Having a central location is crucial to any kind of scene,” said Mountain View Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Rick Tillery.
Plans are in the works to add new fire stations in Erie and Mead.
