The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office (LCFR-FMO) has made an arrest in connection to an incident that occurred on the morning of Sunday, October 5, 2025, in Leesburg.
Just after 4:00 a.m. on October 5, the Loudoun County Emergency Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call for a reported explosion in the area of Sparkleberry Terrace. Fire and rescue units from Leesburg, Hamilton, Ashburn, and Lansdowne, as well as command officers and members of the Leesburg Police Department responded. Units arrived on scene to find several dislodged manhole covers with light smoke in the area.
LCFR-FMO investigators responded to the scene and determined the blast was the result of an improvised explosive device (IED). The subsequent investigation resulted in search warrants being executed in the area of northeast Leesburg. With the assistance of explosive detection canines, materials used to manufacture IEDs and incendiary devices were located. As a result of the search, Trent Lasher, 18, of Leesburg, Va., was arrested on Thursday, January 29, 2026, and charged with two felony counts of Manufacture, possession, use, etc., of fire bombs or explosive materials or devices (§ 18.2-85). Mr. Lasher was transported to the Adult Detention Center where he was held on no bond.
The investigation included assistance from the Leesburg Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Federal Bureau of Investigations, and National Geospatial Agency.
