NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A three-alarm fire broke out at a scrapyard in New Orleans East Saturday, Aug. 23.
Crews were called to the 9300 block of Old Gentilly Road around 7:50 p.m. Rain, poor lighting and blocked access slowed their response. Firefighters had to climb over scrap vehicles to get in and hydrants didn’t work.
It took 24 units and over 60 personnel to get the fire under control by 9:38 p.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
