A brush fire in Ernest E. Debs Regional Park in Montecito Heights was limited to just 1 acre on Wednesday, though a firefighter was hurt in the battle.
Using ground crews and helicopter water drops, the Los Angeles Fire Department contained the fire to just an acre, “despite oppressive heat, sporadic wind and fire involving heavy brush in near vertical terrain,” fire officials said in a news alert.
The battle took about 40 minutes.
One of the first firefighters to the scene, however, “is now being medically examined and treated for apparent heat exhaustion,” the LAFD said.
No one else was hurt, and no structures were damaged.
The following roads are closed as mop-up operations continue:
- Northbound 110 Parkway offramp at Avenue 52
- Griffin Avenue / Avenue 52 between Montecito Drive and the 110 Parkway
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
