CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A pedestrian remains in critical condition following a collision with a vehicle Thursday night in Chula Vista, authorities said.
According to the Chula Vista Police Department, officers responded around 8:36 p.m. on June 26 to reports of a collision in the 700 block of Third Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered that a white 2016 Toyota Corolla traveling northbound had struck a pedestrian crossing midblock from west to east, outside of a designated crosswalk.
The driver, a 53-year-old National City man, remained at the scene and was uninjured. Police say he has been cooperative with the investigation, and alcohol or drugs are not suspected to have played a role in the crash.
Paramedics rendered lifesaving aid at the scene before transporting the unidentified male pedestrian to a nearby trauma center, where he remains hospitalized in critical condition with serious internal injurie, police said.
CVPD’s Traffic Bureau is actively investigating the cause of the collision. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has additional information to call 619-476-5303.
